According to Eric Schlosser's article titled “What We Eat” the fast food industry has been growing at an enormous rate over the last 30 years or so. Americans have spent more money on fast food than they do on anything else such as movies,music,books and even education. It’s basically a billion dollar industry. You can go to a McDonalds and get a chicken sandwich or a burger,two orders of fries, and two pies for $8.68 and that will fill you up versus if I go grocery shopping my bill is always usually around 80$ and that lasts me around a couple weeks. Referring back to the article “What We Eat”: “ A typical American can now consume three hamburgers and four orders of french fries every week.” that sentence alone should explain why Americans are becoming one of the fattest populations in the world. We do it because it’s cheap and inexpensive, it’s easy to get to no matter where you are you will always find a fast food restaurant , and because unlike a grocery store you don’t have to deal with all the people and long lines trying to figure out which aisle the milk is in when you can just wait in your car and all you have to do is say what you want, pay for it,get your food from the window and keep on driving wherever you off …show more content…
You can find them inside a grocery store like for example in every Target you go to they always have a starbucks sitting a few feet at the entrance so the coffee smell hits you in the face and next thing you know you have a craving for a large mocha frappachino and what you thought you were going in the store to get a few things now involves a coffee and a cake pop. They even have a little concession stand next to it that sells sodas and hot dogs they do these things to distract you from what you were originally came into the store to do. They have fast food areas in Airports,stadiums,food vendors in major cities because food is such a central part of our lives. Mcdonald's is a billion dollar industry just by itself. According to the article “What We Eat” : Mcdonalds is responsible for 90 percent of the country’s new jobs,has thirty-thousand restaurants worldwide,opens two thousand new ones each year,one out of eight people have probably worked at a mcdonald's at one point in their lives, and every year the company usually hires about a million people private or public.that’s more than any other organization has ever done. That’s how big this fast food industry is it’s completely taken over
