In the United States there are various interest groups. The progressives are a group of individuals that focused on trying to have the government play a better role in the lives of the American people. As quoted by UShistory.org “The Progressives were urban, Northeast, educated, middle-class, Protestant reform-minded men and women.” (Ushistory.org). This was what the Progressive movement was founded on until it spread like wildfire in the country in 1912 when the Progressive Party was founded. The progressives believed in social, economic, and political reforms. This also caused change in the country’s previous beliefs and a bigger government. The United States was at a crossroads of the kind of country it could be and the country it was.
