The council met for twenty-five sessions between the ages of 1545-1563. The first session (1545-1547) was called on by Pope Paul III to deal with the doctrine and to get everyone’s attention on the differences between the Catholics and Protestants; this was to make sure that no one had any suspicions in the future. Five statements came out of the first session two of them were that communion in both kinds was forbidden except when they got permission by the pope and that good works were upheld. The second session was in 1551 and as called on by Julius III. Charles V insisted that Protestants who had been invited had to attend. But with this the Protestants demanded two things one being that all Bishops should be relieved of the oath of obedience towards the Papacy. Then as Martin Luther got older he started to study law at the University of Erfurt. Martin called out to St Anne and promised his life by being a monk soon after this Martin became a monk even though his father disapproved of this and wanted him to become a lawyer he didn’t follow this as he was so scared of dying which is why he promised his life to becoming a monk. Martin Luther created the Protestant Confirmation because he was doubtful of the simple morals the Catholic Church were teaching. By being doubtful Martin made a document of all things he thought the church was doing wrong and he called this document the ’95 Thesis’ this came out in 1506. This document Martin nailed to the door of the church so everyone could see it. Some ways the Catholic Church where doing wrong in Martins opinions was the selling of indulgences this just looked like a way for the church to make money. Bishops not visiting their correct diocese and also selling spiritual and sacred things (e.g the rosary). Martin believed that this was wrong as he didn’t like people using their money on sacred items as that their money could not promise them a gateway to heaven and that their own faith could lead them there.
