The Vietnam War started when Japanese troops invaded the Northern part of Vietnam that was originally taken by French forces. Ho Chi Minh was outraged of the situation and ultimately decided to form a group named “Viet Minh” to fight off the intruders in their country. Japan withdrew in 1945, and a French-educated Emperor Bao Dai gained control of Vietnam. Not long enough, The Viet Minh’s stripped Emperor Bao Dai his power and gave it to Ho. He decided that Hanoi would be the capital and the name of the country would be the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
