I thought Greek Life was very fake. The girls seemed to want to be trophy wives, etc. The picture I got was a lot of drinking, hazing, and mean girls.
What made you decide to join a sorority?
Part of me had always wondered if the stereotype was true, and a lot of my friends from high school were now sorority women. When I met some of the girls who are now my sisters, I really enjoyed talking to them. They made me feel like not all sorority girls were bitchy, etc.
When did you rush your sorority and how was the process?
I rushed fall 2014 during informal recruitment. My new member process was an in-depth learning experience. We take a great deal of time to discuss our history, purpose, values, policies and other important information.
How was your time as a pledge? Is it as bad as movies and the media portray it?
We don’t call it pledge/pledging. My time as a new member was wonderful. My sisters were very accepting and kind. They tried to always make us feel included. Our sorority was the first to come up with an anti-hazing policy, so not it was nothing like the movies. We were constantly loved and included in everything. Sisters were inviting us to dinner, study sessions, and to hang out all the time.

The media will portray anything it can in a negative light in order to gain ratings. However, some bad apples are in the bunch. Some people haze, encourage bad behavior, incite racism, etc. They cast a bad light on all chapters. Other chapters raise large sums of money for charity, get involved in all kinds of community service, have great brotherhood/sisterhood connections, and do all around good things. It is hard to see those things in light of negative scandals that make headlines. No one cares that you raised thousands for ALS or Autism when another chapter with your letters is in the news for hazing, rape, drinking,
