FDR was the 32d president of the united states.He was the only president to serve more than 8 years - total of 12 years. He was a central figure of world events during mid 20-th century, leading US during a time of world wide economic depression and total war. He defeated incumbent Herbert Hoover in 1932 at the depth of Great Depression. Energized by his personal victory over polio, FDR's persisitent optimist and activism contributed to a renewal of the national spirit.
