How To Write A Reflective Essay About Writing

Improved Essays
What was frustrating and difficult about writing for this course was how loose and vague the prompts were. Almost all the essays I had to write in high school had specific prompts. Furthermore, almost every paper was on a piece of literature. I had a specific structure that I would use, that I was taught in middle school, that seemed to work. However, the structure did not seem to work here because this was one of my first times writing whole papers about something other than literature. It was difficult to know whether I was being clear enough with my point while writing because instead of analyzing quotes, I had to analyze something much greater. This caused me to have my first C on a paper for class. Thankfully, I was able to redo it for a better grade. An example of having to write about something great is that, I never truly understood pop culture and yet I had to analyze an aspect of it. What was frustrating while writing for …show more content…
I thought that some of what I was writing had a obvious message but it turned out that I need to write more explanation to get my point across. This specifically happened with my first essay about pop culture. I made connections that were not written down that I thought may naturally come to the reader or might sound repetitive if I wrote it down. However, while editing the essay to put my explanation down in writing, I made even more connections that I did not originally see before. In my second essay, I made a point about how language is view differently here in America than other parts of the world but did not go into detail. After getting your feedback, I added more and feel that it made my essay stronger. I am going to take this lesson being specific and explaining everything in depth with me and use it in future

In my rhetorical essay on, On Writing Well, by William Zinsser I tried my best write an essay to effectively show my reader in what I believed. In this essay I wrote how I thought William Zinsser was very effective in proving and demonstrating his points to his readers. I went into talking about how he involved some of his points through his own writing and as he did was very effective. As I wrote my essay, I included quotes and examples that Zinsser used through the book, to show prove of what I would state and why I stated it. Throughout my essay, I had many complications in trying to get my point across due to the fact that I had trouble understanding the concept of the essay myself.…

Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. In this class, my writing has advanced because I am reading more, practicing more, and writing more.…

The way I move through my own writing process is simple. I always start with research on a specific topic that an instructor gives me. I’m that kind of person that loves to highlight the important details of someone else’s information so I can admire her or his work in my papers. Then after finding the right amount of work to compose my own paper I start out with a title page.…

Because there is a lot to write about, my first draft was very unorganized. I jumped around in my argument and at times it seemed that my body paragraph had no correlation. I rewrote my essay again to hopefully clarify my points and what I was arguing. Once again, my ideas were not clearly expressed. After conferencing with Ileana I realized that I was not confident with my essay, so I rewrote my essay for a third time.…

My mind feels like a 1000 piece puzzle missing a piece. I can’t simply find the right words to say to start this paper. It is always like this when freewriting; the idea of freewriting in and of itself frightens me. Never able to put the words in my head onto paper in a way that it can be read eloquently by others. My hands start to cramp automatically at the idea of freewriting.…

As you requested, I am writing to share my past writing experiences which include what kinds of writing I have done in school, the feedback that I seek on my work before I turn in assignments, the memories that I have of writing, voluntary writing I have done, and much more. Past Experiences with Writing Previous to this course I have taken several mandatory English, Writing, and Literature courses in which I have gained experience that now impact the way I write. Surviving English Comp 1 Writing Class Writing is one thing I hate the most. It was hard to write an essay for the first time because I did not have the knowledge or concept of this writing style. Before this class, I thought I knew what writing was all about by expressing my thoughts, ideas and feeling. I know now that I had the wrong concept on how to write. I can express my thoughts, ideas and feeling, but if I put them in the wrong contents it does not lead the reader to the point of the essay.…

When I began this class, it had been over ten years since I had taken English 111, so I was a little apprehensive about whether I would be able to remember everything from that long ago and be successful in this class. The first paper that I was tasked to write was a literary analysis of “Little Things” by Raymond Carver. I was excited about this assignment in the beginning because, as an avid reader, I really enjoy critically looking at what I think the author is trying to say to me through their story. I love analyzing my favorite books and do it quite often, much to my husband’s dismay, I’m sure, because he’s probably tired of listening to me talk about books endlessly by now. However, I soon found that one of my problems with writing is that I seem to have a hard time expressing exactly what I want to say.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
