What Was Beowulf's Downfall

Have you ever lost a fight? What was your downfall? In the book Beowulf , he starts out a successful and strong warrior. As time goes by, he ages and becomes weak.This is his downfall. Beowulf fought differently with each opponent. With each opponent he changes his style.

Who was his first major monster? His name was Grendel. He was a descendant of Cain, which in terms means he doesn’t like fun or joy. The Danish people were having a good time and he didn’t like, so he attacked. Beowulf heard of the distress these people were in and came to help. Beowulf fought without armor or weapons. He had the strength of thirty men. He broke Grendel's hands then ripped off his arm. Grendel ran back to his lair and bled to death. Beowulf was young, very boastful and arrogant about him fighting alone and winning.

Who attacked next? A couple days later Grendel's mom came for reprisal. She was upset that her son had been killed. He decided it was best he wore armor and took a sword but, still went alone. He had to go to her lair to fight her. She almost succecced in killing him a couple times but, he escaped her grasp in the nick of time. His sword failed him. He finally found an ancient giant's sword that broke her neck with

Its fifty years in the future and Beowulf is king. A slave took gold from a cave to buy his freedom. Little did he think this treasure was guarded by a dragon. The dragon realized something was missing and started burning stuff down and terrorizing the city. Beowulf takes eleven men plus the slave to the cave where the dragon is. He goes in full armor, takes a shield, and a sword. He goes in alone. The dragon starts to melt his shield. His men realize he is losing and all but one run. Wiglaf stays to help his king. Beowulf ends up getting bit in the neck. Before he dies him and Wiglaf stab the dragon and kill it. Beowulf finals request is to see and treasure. Since Beowulf doesn’t have any kin, he names Wiglaf
