What Volleyball Taught Me

When I was younger I realized that I loved volleyball and I wanted to play it all the time. I remember being so excited for tryouts when I was in 7th grade. It was the first week of school and tryouts were 3 days long. I remember thinking to myself that 3 days was going to seem like an eternity, and it did. Volleyball has taught me a lot about failure and how to come back from it. From playing volleyball you learn that not everything always works out and that's okay. The first day of tryouts in 7th grade I was as nervous as anyone could ever be. I had never played on a team before and I had no idea what to expect. When I got to the gym after school there were so many girls in the gym that I was in such shock I almost just walked out. Almost all of my friend were there which made it a little better because I at least had some people to talk to. The 2nd day was much better and I was starting to understand more and get the hang of things, by the 3rd day I was so confident in myself and the coaches were complimenting me saying that I was doing very well. After the last day was over the coaches gave us a phone number to call at around 6pm that night to see if we made it or not. I was so nervous because the first day I did not do good at

I have tried my very hardest this year to be patient with them and direct them to their correct position on the court and give them advice to help them improve. I have not yet held a captain position for the team, as those roles are given to the seniors first and foremost, but it is a goal of mine to be one my senior year or sooner. I also plan to run for office in other clubs that I am a member of, or join in the future.…

The game of volleyball was invented by William G. Morgan in 1895. All other materials were added, some created, and others improved to fit this newfound mixed sport of “don’t let the ball touch the ground”. The net was borrowed from tennis during the same year, the number of players reduced from the total that all could fit on the court, to nine, and finally to six. Basic rules were established from 1895 up until 1970 and are still subject to change depending on the school or association who wishes to do so. One of the most influential aspects of the sport itself is the shoes.…

I remember trying to learn how to set a volleyball. Setting is actually very difficult. To be a setter, it takes a lot of work, starting with simple things like catch and release drills. In a game, the setter is a very important player. Most of the time, hitters receive the star attention and all the credit, but they can’t do all the work by themselves, which is where the defensive specialists, liberos, and setters come in.…
