The things you should expect when reading ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ are the themes. The themes that are most recognized in this book are reunion, coming of age, and love and sacrifice. You can find theses themes in almost every chapter in the book. In this book, it’s full of these themes to make the audience understand what the characters are really going through and makes them who they are. In Harper Lee’s novel, ‘To A Kill Mockingbird’, you’ll see a lot of forms of reunion, coming of age, and love and sacrifice in many ways. You can see this theme happen to Atticus when he decides to leave Jem and Scout at home in order to defend a black man named Tom Robinson in jail and in court for being accused for raping Mayella Ewell. ¨I'm going’ downtown for a while.¨ said Atticus ¨He was changing his pants.¨ “Dill wanna come,” I whispered. “So he will,” said Jem gloomily. A long extension cord ran between the bars of a second light from it’s bar bulb, Atticus was sitting propped against the front door. He was sitting in one of his office chairs, and he was reading, oblivious of the night bugs dancing over his head. I tried to run, but Jem caught me. “Don’t go to him,” he said, “he might not like it. He’s all right, let’s go home. I just wanted to see where he was” (Lee 199 and 201). Atticus went to the jail cell where they were keeping Tom Robinson so that he could be there for him. So he made one of the hardest decisions a person could make, and that’s to leave loved ones behind. But if he had stayed with Jem and Scout what kind of example would he be setting for them. To just run away and quit when the going gets tough, thankfully that’s not the person Harper Lee made him to be. She made him what all people want to be and that's to be fearless.
