What started the salem witch trials

The trials began with two girls named Betty Parris & a girl named Abigail Williams began to throw weird temper tantrums. Then they said that it felt like they were getting poked with pins. Although most of the accused witches were women, some men were also accused of being a witch. They were arrested for studying witchcraft. When they were accused of studying witchcraft the people thought they were bitten by the devil so that is how they determined who was/ wasn’t a witch . 20 people were killed and over 150 were put in prison. Or if they neither died or were put in jail they were tested to see if they were a necromancer.
