Macbeth Essay
In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, witches, visions, ghosts and prophecies play a major role in the development of the play. Each role creates a mood that helps to support the plot of the play. This creates Macbeth’s character causing the actions he makes through the major events in the play. In Act 1, scene 3, Macbeth and Banquo run into three witches. In the witches prophecies, the third witch told Macbeth, “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!.”(1:3,50-54). Macbeth was notified he would gain power and become the King of Scotland. All though during the witches prophecies, Duncan was the King of Scottland during that time. Macbeth says “The table’s full.”(3:4,52-54) While the table was not full but Macbeth keeps seeing a vision of Banquo’s ghost sitting in his seat and thinking its a joke that someone is doing to him. Lennox tells Macbeth to sit but Macbeth would not sit. Macbeth starts talking to the Ghost of Banquo while everyone in the banquet looks at Macbeth like if he was crazy basically talking to an empty chair because the guest do not see the ghost of Banquo. The ghost of Banquo represents the guilt Macbeth has of Banquo's death. It shows how weak Macbeth is because he can’t live with the guilt and is terrifierd that he would get discovered. Macbeth makes a fool out of himself. Which led Lady Macbeth take action and pull Macbeth apart to talk to him and make him stop looking crazy because like Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is hungry for power. The ghost of Banquo appears later on in the play in a vision prophesied by the three witches when Macbeth sees a line of kings descended from Banquo. The ghost of Banquo expresses the guilt of Macbeth
