Over time, a person has the inability to feel love for more than one person at a time. Once a person has become so attached to their spouse or partner, when they are apart, they may experience jealousy, fear of rejection, and separation anxiety. However, jealousy can throw off a relationship and it can show if two people are really attracted to each other. In William Shakespeare's Othello it states, “ O, beware, my lord, of jealousy; It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock The meat it feeds on; that cuckold lives in bliss Who, certain of his fate, loves not his wronger” (195). Othello is overcome by jealousy when he hears that his wife, Desdemona, is having an affair. However, this is not true, it is just a rumor started by someone outside of their relationship. Othello is so mad that he does not go to Desdemona to find out the truth, but he instead kills her for being “unfaithful.” When he later learns the truth, he is overcome by grief and takes his own life.
