What Role Did Atlas Play In The Haydens Of Life

As Greek mythology falls more and more into the past, the stories it has to tell become more and more interesting. Atlas, the titan whom carried the burdens of the entire world including both the heavens and earth on his bare shoulders. He was one of the few kings of titans who led all the rest of the titans into titanomachy, which was the war between titans and greek gods. Not only did Atlas do all this but he was also a father of many children, mostly being daughters with the exception of few sons. He played a huge role in greek mythology and the information and stories he took part in are endless.

Being the son of titans Lapetus and Clymene he was soon to become know as the celestial sphere, he knew of all stars and the world. He was the brother of Epimetheus, Menoetius and Prometheus. Later on Atlas had many kids including Hesperides, the Hyades, the Pleiades, and the nymph Calypso who had lived on ogygia which was an island. Atlas had a son name Hyas who died and was placed up in the heavens and now represents the constellation of Aquarius. After Hyas’s death, Atlas’s daughters the Pleaides all died of grief as a result of their brothers death. These daughters now make up few of the stars in the sky.

Cronus led the titan side as well as Atlas while Zeus led the gods side. This battle lasted about 10 years with the victory being handed to the gods side. With this defeat of the titans came their punishment which happened to be their journey to Tartarus, an endless deep and dark cave which closely resembles purgatory. This grieving defeat hit the Titans like a brick wall but Atlas was the one who got the worst of the punishments. He was assigned the role of holding up the heavens on his shoulders all
