What Role Did Abigail Williams Play In The Crucible

Abigail Williams played a big role in The Crucible. She was the first accusers in the Salem Witch Trials. She and her cousins mainly caused the trials. The trials consisted a young group of girls in Salem Village, Massachusetts being claimed to be possessed by the devil and they ended up accusing several local women of witchcraft. She and the group of girls caused up to forty different cases during the trials. Abigail was a huge factor when it came to killing witches in the trials. This particular young lady at the time lived with her uncle, Samuel Parris after a raid by the Native Americans resulting the death of her parents. She was 11 years old when the trials were originated. She was known as a niece or kinfolk to Reverend Samuel Parris at the time. She was basically the group leader of the group that accused women of witchcraft. She herself was the first accuser in fact in the trials, which led her to accuse other women. According to an eyewitness, at this time she showed signs of fits including running around in the room flailing her arms, ducking under chairs, and attempting to climb the chimney. And her body apparently contorted into impossible positions. After the incident, her uncle ended up taking her to the doctor because it troubled many villagers of Salem. The doctor didn’t find any medical reasons to these actions so he suggested it must be witchcraft. These same actions happened to her cousin, Elizabeth Parris, and was one of the first accusers of the trials along with Abigail. The accusations of Elizabeth and Abigail led to the arrest of Tituba, her uncle’s slave, Sarah Good, and Sarah
