Characteristics give the film much stronger content and keeps viewers interested throughout the movie. Ben is young, inexperienced and uptight. Mrs. Robinson is older, experienced and portrays a calm personality. Ben is a young man who was weakened by Mrs. Robinson’s manipulations. His character worked so well because of how he said things. Mrs. Robinson would say she is too afraid to walk into her house alone to act like she is vulnerable. Another way she would manipulate is to act sweet by saying she is family since she has known Ben all her life. Her ulterior motive is for him to feel safe with her so that she could get away with what she wanted. (Edborg Cal. The Graduate.) Another important thing about The Graduate is that it is known for being part of the “ pushing the limit” of the production code. For example, in it happened one night, Peter Warne would have the dominance over Ellie Andrews, who was a spoiled wealthy daughter of a millionaire father.
