What Price Football Game Analysis

In the offseason of 2015 the San Francisco 49ers were coming off another impressive season and another playoff berth. In March of 2015 a promising 24-year-old Chris Borland linebacker Chris Borland retired, saying that he “wanted to take care of his mind and body.” After that, 3 more young players would also retire, this left the 49ers with serious holes in their football team, and even more questions as to why this was happening. It’s no secret that the game of football takes a serious toll on a player’s body and mind. With most NFL players having a career that usually only spans about ten years, if they’re lucky to not have any career ending injuries. In Don Banks’ “What Price Football?” he argues for some serious changes to the rules and regulations of football to better protect the players. However, there are still major things that still need to be done, like conducting more research in to head trauma caused by repeated blows to the head. The first diagnosis of CTE came in 2002 by Brain Injury Research Institute doctors Bennet I. Omalu, M.D. and Julian Bailes, M.D., unfortunately “The condition has so far only been diagnosable through the post-mortem examination of the brain”. So, finding whether or not a person is currently feeling the effects of CTE is incredibly difficult to figure out and up until 2016 the NFL has fought to deny the link between CTE and Football.
