In the article Coontz talks about what people miss about the 1950s, she likewise expresses that numerous Americans in 1950s tried to set the record straight with respect to positive and negative actions that were connected with the decade. Accordingly, she starts to clarify the fact that it was a good time for children that grew up at that time. Also, at that time marriages, jobs, birth rate and education were at an all-time high during this era known as the post war economic booms. What is not missed is racism which was a big negative factor during the 1950’s and discrimination was also widespread because no government support was given to minorities.
I agree with her perspective based on this article and if things continued like that today there would not be as many opportunities for minorities.

Prop 8 laws were passed in California in November 2008 that decertified same sex marriage in their state. However, Prop 8 was also created by opponents of same-sex marriage to the final ruling on same sex marriage cases. I believe all the points of this article were valid. Also, I like how the article was broken down into six categories that show you the negative effects of Prop 8. After reading the article the one thing that stuck out to me was, what marriage is, marriage to me means a commitment by two people who love each other regardless of their sex or gender. Likewise, I do not feel that prop 8 can hurt the family, I believe it is all about how you present yourself to your family and friends, despite all the harms that people state same-sex couples can cause because when raising children it is all the same because we all have personal issues regardless of sex or gender that is just a part of
