Jakob Yeaton #19 OHS means a lot to me. It has been a place where learning was fun and everyone was nice to each other. Throughout the years that I was here it had always been a nice place to be. At times I looked forward to coming to school and learning. I remember one time in fourth grade when we had a field trip to a aquarium and we got to learn many different things. We got to pet fish and learned about them, we also learned about the ocean as a whole. Then in class we got to learn things about rocks and minerals. We would look at them and watch videos explaining the different kid of rocks and what minerals did. In one of the videos about the different kinds of rock we learned songs that helped us remember

Physics and basic science classes won’t cover the information about the sun, the moon or the stars and they way they interact with each other. It was shocking for me to learn that Harvard graduates didn’t know much about astronomy despite coming from a science background. It was probably just as shocking for the teacher to learn that her students had misconceptions about the way seasons occur and the reason why there are lunar phases. One student had said that the reason there are crescents is because there are clouds blocking the way. It made her realize that students come up with their own ideas before the teacher teaches them.…

Before the fourth grade, the thought of practicing my nonexistent Polish when my grandmother called our landline caused me to dash out the room. I was raised in America, and partaking in my Polish culture was simply a way to ease my parent’s nostalgia for their “Polska.” After moving there for a year, I learned new traditions and developed intimate connections with my family.
