There are five different ways to assess students and they are informal, formal, summative, formative, and diagnostic. An informal assessment is a process of evaluating a student 's performance by watching their comportment. A formal assessment is centered on tests and other assignments throughout the year. These exams are administered in a controlled test-taking condition. The data is collected from the student’s performance on the examinations to determine their academic achievement. Formative assessment is an assessment for learning; this concentrates on observing the students response to and progress with instruction. In today’s society technology is everything. Parents seem to only be available digitally. An educator can create a classroom web page allowing parents to see what is going on during the week, what homework is coming, and any other information that is important. There can also be link to the educators email; giving them a way to communicate while they are busy.
Harnessing the potential of digital technology when teaching a concept, analyzing the implications, “placing the concept in various contexts, creating links with existing knowledge, and leading discussions that probe student understanding” (Kent, 2003, p. 13) allows the students to control their own learning. Educationally technology can be fun and engaging for the students. IPads can be used to play review games on math or sight words. Smartboards create an interactive learning environment, students are allowed to use the board during lessons. Kinesthetic learner comprehend more when they are permitted to use this throughout the lessons. Assistive technology is any type of technology which assists students with disabilities. These can include, but are not limited to digital recorders, CD players (auditory processing disorders), reading guides (for students who have visual tracking needs), cushions (sensory processing disorders), special computer programs, stress balls, and many more.
