Reflective Essay: What Makes Up A Team?

Improved Essays
What makes up a team? A team is a group of people that work extremely hard together for a long period of time to achieve a common goal. These people have to be dedicated, determined, focused, and most of all a teammate. It takes a certain person to fit all these qualifications and still be focused on other aspects of work. I have been honored to work with everyone involved in the SLLS class. Every individual in the class has taught me something about myself or in general that I have not known previously. When learning about this class from Angie, in New Student Seminar, I knew I was meant to take this class. I’ve had a love for volunteering ever since I could walk and knew I always wanted to be involved in various communities. I was counting down the days in winter break till this class started because I was so excited. Walking in I only knew, Taylor, Alex, …show more content…
Angie has known me so far my entire college career. Walking into New Student Seminar having no friends, Angie made me feel just at home. I have never met someone so happy, kind-hearted, positive, and influential like Angie was to me. Angie is the kind of person I look up to no matter the circumstances, she has taught me to have fun in life, but also take it very seriously because you only have one shot at it. If Angie, hadn’t had been my teacher, then I do not know if I would have taken this class. Thanks again Angie, I hope we stay close the remainder of my college career!
Kim is just as an influential leader to me as Angie. Kim visited our New Student Seminar class one day and right away I could tell she was driven to what she believes in. Kim has taught me to stay determined, ask questions, and to realize my final goal in life. Without her determination in class and out, I don’t think I would as determined in my everyday life to achieve excellence. Thanks for teaching me how to stay determined in and out of the classroom

The aftermath of hurricane Sandy was horrific, however it was also followed by a huge amount of social responsible acts that influenced my life indefinitely. In October of 2012 my community was directly hit by hurricane Sandy which resulted in extreme flooding, fires and wind damage that left a tremendous amount of damage, including concrete sidewalks and streets in rubble; there were holes with half or entire truck’s or car’s buried inside of them. The flood was so bad that we were trapped inside until the water eventually drained into the sewer systems. When the storm and the water surpassed, people panicked; with no phone services, television or radio no one knew how long we would be without resources. Many people broke into flooded stores to get water, canned foods and any undamaged supplies…

My experiences volunteering for Food Recovery Network and the Knox Farm have been quite transformative. I never would have thought that I would have my quench for volunteering come from taking School and Society. Initially, I wasn’t completely sure about whether or not I would enjoy the experiences, but I ended up getting so much out of all the experiences. When it came to the first couple weeks volunteering for Food Recovery Network, I ended up falling in love with the concept of donating food that would have been wasted to the cafeteria to places that need help. I volunteered almost every monday and friday then an entire week.…

Waking up the morning of June 28th, 2016 I had no idea how this one simple day was going to change my life, and alter my personality for the better. I was born with arthritis in both of my jaw bones, affecting how my facial structure formed and the curve of my smile. It was never something myself or my family had noticed, until one visit in 2010 to a new nurse practitioner at my pediatrician. She innocently pointed out that my face was asymmetrical and one of my jaw bones was significantly smaller than the other, causing my smile to be at a great slant. This one comment caused a snowballing effect and next thing I knew I was visiting one of the best Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons in the country in Boston, Massachusetts, five hours from my hometown.…

Since my sophomore year in high school, I 've been able to be in a kindergarten classroom under the guidance of the same teacher, Mrs. Cookie Bodie. Through this experience I 've been able to watch her attitude be positive towards herself, those around her, and the subject matter she was teaching. She portrayed the characteristics of a Level 3 teacher, and I am very thankful for the time I was able to learn from her. The most outstanding thing I learned from her was classroom management: to never back down while under fire, and always remember what your goal is for the class. The difference she has made in my life through teaching is one I will never forget.…
