Lead designer Jony Ive first designed the iMac, it came as a stark contrast to the manilla, beige colored PCs as it was colorful and lively (Casserly). Even after the iMac launch, Apple has invented new designs with their MacBook Pro series laptops, creating an extremely slim, aluminum type body that was lightweight and stylish. However, recently Apple has hit the creative wall as they have not contrived new designs to their computers in the recent years. PC has made extravagant strides in inventing aesthetically pleasing devices, including the new Spectre 13 laptop (Casserly). Despite contributing nothing functionally, aesthetics are a humongous factor in choosing a computer for a number of potential consumers. Many serious gamers tend to lean towards computers when playing games, and that begs the question; Apple or PC? In this category, PC blows Apple out of the water and off the high pedestal on which it resides. If a consumer were to spend around $800-1000 on a gaming desktop PC, they would receive a high powered machine that is optimized to play games at high levels of resolution and speed (www.bestbuy.com). However, if the same consumer were to spend $1800-2000 on an iMac, that person would be the proud owner of a computer that has a strenuous time playing the higher end games, and even older games as well. A new $400+ graphics card would be required to upgrade the iMac to allow it to run games at a higher level. Being able to run games and other projects at the same time has all to do with the memory of a computer, or the Random Access Memory.
