What Makes Persuasion Successful

Persuasion is my weakest skill, which is why I practiced it for this assignment. It's a daily routine of mine to persuade my partner into doing things they aren't in the habit of doing, but fail miserably at 80% of my attempts.

However, today was a success because we thoroughly cleaned their car. Cleaning at all is their least favourite thing to do. How I got them to clean the car is still not 100% clear to me but a positive attitude I know helped. Usually I come off Nagy, and no one likes to be asked to do something with a negative vibe, usually because it can come across as if the person did something wrong. Mentioning how the day was beautiful for being active, (I started with this while we were in the car) then asked if they wanted to

This says alot about the persona we are and how that reflects throughout writing. Something very different that stood out to me was how “persuasion goes beyond convincing by actually moving people to action through feelings.” This is a great tip that I will take because it explains how when you are trying to persuade someone, they shouldn't just only want to listen but instead they have to feel as if the need to take action. In Other words, they need to feel the problem and that will make an impact. Many times, when we write with the intention of persuading, sure our audience will listen but they won't do anything about it.…

A Well Written Persuasion The article “How to Mark a Book”, was written by Mortimer J. Alder, Ph.D., and published on July 6, 1941. This article is the “father of books” opinion of the benefits of marking in a work of literature as you read it. Dr. Alder devoted his life to education and firmly believed that great conversation and learning stems from the discussion of great works of literature. This article particularly highlights this belief as it is his expressed opinion of the proper way to “do the most efficient kind of reading.”…

Part IV: The Future of the Persuader Rule The court’s decision does not necessarily eliminate the possibility that the Persuader Rule will be implemented in the future. Since the Persuader Rule is based on an administrative determination of the DOL, it is likely that the Trump administration changes in DOL priorities or personnel would moot the appeal at some point. Relying in part on the assumption that a Trump DOL would abandon the rule and the permanent nationwide injunction issued in Texas, a federal judge in Minnesota faced with a similar case recently stayed that litigation, despite his earlier decision not to grant injunctive relief. The split suggests that the issue could ultimately make its way to a federal court of appeals or…

    Reciprocity Norm

The last possible strategy I could use would be the “That’s not all” technique under the reciprocity norm. The “That’s not all” technique is a two step process that offers something of interest or makes a request. Following that request is a deal to influence the targeted person before they can fully make up their mind, causing the person to feel obligated to except the new offer (lecture, 11-3-2016). This feeling of having to accept the new offer is due to the reciprocity norm, the idea of give and take, or in other words, if someone does a favor for you, you return the favor (lecture, 11-3-2016). Researchers were able to prove this theory to be a successful technique for persuading others through the cupcake study.…

How does one prevent persuasion when they know they can be swayed, or is it possible? One method that might help is to create a strong attitude, meaning that a strong attitude will help someone to resist temptation and exposure of a thing they want to feel a certain way about (Smith & Mackie, 2014). If one wants to feel negatively about something they might be susceptible to, they can study it and form alliances with others of the same opinion. Inoculation is another method of preventing persuasion. Prevention to a disease might be seen in a vaccine shot that one takes, like the flu shot, so that they do not get the flu.…

The video Science and persuasion discussed some interesting tactics on the art of persuasion. When I joined the Army in 1986, there were multiple facets of persuasion to entice young individuals to “Be All You Can Be”. There were bonuses, college money, and of course the adventure of travelling to foreign places. The persuasion that enticed me the most, was the Army College fund; whereas, one hundred dollars a month was taken from my pay for one year. In return, I would receive 100 % tuition while I served the Army; furthermore, I would receive tuition four years, at Government expense, after I was discharged from the Army.…
