What Makes My Mask

Improved Essays
Throughout the process of creating my mask, I became aware of who I am. I learned that I am more than what people see on the surface. My mask reflects a lot about me; however, some of the things that I have placed on my mask have a greater importance to me than others, and influence on who I am. My family, my horses, a dream that I have for the future, piano, and why I have the images where they are on my mask, are all things that I take great importance in.

I chose to add a family tree into my mask because it's important to me. I take great value in family and spending time with them. From the first moment of a new baby's life they depend on their family to take care of them. Your family is your blood, they accept you for who you are no matter what. I enjoy packing up the trailer and going fishing for a week even though I just may happen to cut my foot open with an ax. Your family stands by you no matter what happens.

I love horses. I kinda feel as if they create a big chunk of who I am and who I would like to be. Working with horses builds trust

Above the tree is two truffula trees and the cat in the hats hat. I chose to include these on my mask because the represent Dr. Seuss. His stories are my favorite and his words are so inspirational. Now if we go to the right of the tree we see the butterflies. They represent all of my friends in this world, they all are different in their own unique way. To the left of my mask you see music notes which represent my rhythm and piano; on the other hand, the horse represents my farm and where I grew up. I have a cupcake on here because one day I would like to become a baker. The browning symbol represents the love I have for the outdoors and the fact that I love hunting. Last but not least the roots of the tree, they represent the qualities of me. They are what make me stand

Kenneth Gergen makes it really clear that he does not support the assumption that a person develops one coherent identity in the article, "In Defense of Masks." Although psychologists say it is normal, Gergen mentions the opposite, "they may experience severe emotional distress" (196). The use of multiple identities represented by masks is used, because people seek approval from others and Gergen supports this idea with how different relationships causes one to learn more about themselves. I agree with Gregen 's opinion because people change based on the people they are surrounded by when growing up and the people live more effectively with their use of masks.…

V uses the mask as both symbolism and disguise, but he also comments on identity, both of himself and of the community. “There is a face beneath this mask, but it isn’t me. I’m no more than face than I am the muscles beneath it or the bones beneath that,” says V to Evey. Evey had many questions for V, but did not ask because she was so worried on what kind of man V was behind his mask. V’s purpose was to keep his identity hidden because he did not like the man he became.…

    The Neutral Mask Analysis

When creating a performance that focuses on the expressiveness of the body the actor must no longer rely on their face as their gateway to expression. By introducing a mask the actor has to stop thinking of his or her face as a focal point and instead they must represent the character feelings physically. ‘There’s a freedom that comes from putting on the mask, expressing yourself solely through your body’ (Schiffman, 2005). Mask work aims to free the actors from the pressures placed on delivering lines and instead allows them to connect with the characters on a deeper and more physical level. The ‘Neutral Mask’’ (Lecoq,2009:p39) is the perfect starting point, it is a mask without expression or characteristics and it's blank nature forces…

I’m Mexican, I was born in Mexico but then brought over here to the US when I was around 3 years old. My whole family was born in Mexico and I’m the youngest child which means that all of my brothers and sister grew up for most of their childhood in Mexico and my oldest sister even got married over there. We eventually all moved over here and that resulted in our family being very culturally connected with Mexico’s culture. My mother is a strong believer in continuing cultural traditions even if we are in a different place. So she made sure we always knew a lot about where we came from or special traditions that were done in Mexico.…
