Jermaine Lamarr Cole, Is arguably one of the greatest rappers of the 2000s. His music involving real life experiences and real emotion make him one of the unique music artists around today. “He isn't underrated, but one of those artists that are well known but discredited for their work(Ajello).” What makes J Cole Great isn’t the beats but the words and purpose for his music. “When I actually listen hard enough, most of what I hear is honor-student try-hardisms, and it occasionally veers into grade-grubbing, as on the old-rapper olive branch”(Breihan). J Cole has not told all of his fans what he feels about the world problems in America. This is shown in a release in 2017 called “High for hours.” “High For Hours” is J. Cole’s latest track about the oppression that takes place on a daily basis in White America. The first few lines of this song are all you need to listen to know J cole truly is using his fame for good things and to get his mind across. …show more content…
This is shown very well in his most recent album “4 Your Eyes Only.” this was an album serves as a message to both J. Cole's newborn little girl and Nina the daughter of a deceased childhood friend. According to the 4 Your Eyez Only track "Change," James McMillan Jr was a childhood friend of J. Cole who got caught up in the streets and was killed at age 22. In the first three verses of this song, he raps from his friend's perspective to Nina recounting his life so she can always have an image of her father. The verses also serve as a message to Cole's newborn daughter, expressing his concerns about the ways of this world.
