“God grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” (Niebuhr). Everybody must make choices in their life. The hardest part is using what you have learned to make a wise decision, which is why knowledge is the first step to wisdom. A person needs to be wise and attain knowledge to tell right from wrong. Wisdom helps people make tough decisions, while knowledge is used to make those choices. Knowledge comes from learning, but wisdom comes from living every day. Wisdom plays a very crucial role in life. Without wisdom, many creations in this world would be nothing but failures. Wisdom allows people to apply their knowledge in life. This is demonstrated in various ways such as making the right choice, or knowing a lot about a certain topic. An example of this is when you are trolling for muskies. If you ever hook a Muskie on your line you must first slow your boat down, or the fish can break your line. This example is better presented by a quote from one of my favorite books, The Old Man and The Sea, “He knew that if he could not slow the fish with steady pressure the fish could take out all the line and break it” (Hemingway 63). The old man presents one of the ways he is wise through fishing. Based upon his wisdom from being a fisherman all his life, he knows that if he does not slow the fish down the fish will break the line and escape.
