The Spaniard Tragedies have been a form a drama since the early days of art and literature and as drama grew the more it was appeased to the public and was criticized for the rules. Aristotle, a Greek philosopher created an outline of how a tragedy should be played and this outline was followed even into Western civilization. His outline consisted of five things all tragedies should have characterized for their main tragic hero. This consisted of having nobleness, having a tragic/fatal flaw, peripeteia, a reversal of fortune, and having a fate greater than what the character deserved. Since that outline more modern literalist have defined a different definition of what a tragic hero should be and they explained a tragic hero should be a main character that has admirable qualities. I agree with Aristotle’s five tragic hero qualities because if you include it all I believe it creates a very interesting story excluding characters.

I believe he was, Maximus was admirable, but not perfect and he was doomed from the start because of his one of few flaws, his strong-willed personality. He was determined to be a free man and this led to downfalls and rise-ups but at the end of the day he, his family, and his closest friends were dead, but he was the only one who got honor after, which is devious to think about. This is the art of a tragedy, Greeks believed it to be the highest form of drama, and after this movie, I believe them.
