In Anthem Ayn Rand writes the book in a totalitarian society as to which they eliminated technology to prevent something from happening again. In the totalitarian society the people have little control over rather or not having technology is superior, because everything is controlled by the state. The little mention of technology in the book foreshadows a meaning that the technology was once the cause of the end of the world, which explains the totalitarian society. In Ayn Rand’s world equality 7-2521 begins to find out about the unknown while the council has no idea. Equality wants to share with the scholars, what he has found; however he believes he will be punished for doing so. As the story goes on equality has began do discover light. He also finds how to contain the light into creating electricity. When Equality presents this “idea” to the people they begin to run in fear due to the fear of what they think they know about technology in the past.
This book is created around a single individual meaning everyone is considered equal. Knowing the knowledge about Ayn Rand, the thought behind communism is shown throughout the story.
