Over the summer, my father and I went on a hike and we somehow found ourselves trying to describe what it truly means to be a "role model". What does it truly mean to be a real role model? We came up with three attributes that we thought characterized nearly every role model: being humble, being passionate, and having a purpose that is bigger than just oneself. As I pondered over these principles, I couldn 't help but think of our close family friend and fitness trainer, Cedric Griffin. Cedric used his father 's death to truly recognize and appreciate the beauty, opportunity, and priceless value of life. Through his father 's death Cedric learned that every single day is a blessing and an opportunity to make himself the best he can possibly be. Cedric has found that fitness and nutrition, taking care of his own body, is the key to clarity and the connection necessary to access his true spiritual being. He has learned and mastered to precisely control his body and mind, and therefore control his emotions. He has found that through honoring and respecting his body, he is honoring God, logic, and life. Through his recognition of the true value of life, he has been able to find fulfillment, enjoyment, happiness, and peace. In addition, Cedric has done more than find these things for just himself. He has a deeply sincere passion to share his love and happiness with others. He feels that it is his responsibility to change lives, no matter how big or small of an impact, by sharing his love, passions, and gifts with others. He has learned that despite the constant and never ending chaos of this world, he has an opportunity to change the world, starting with himself.
