A thesis statement is the author’s main point of the paper in a simple sentence. Thesis statements are to inform, explain, or convince the reader something the author has written about. For the writer’s sake, a thesis helps to stay on track throughout the paper. The author doesn’t have to clearly state the main point in this thesis, but on some cases they do. There are two types of thesis: explicit and implicit. An explicit thesis is when the author will come out and state their purpose. On the other hand an implicit thesis is when the author doesn’t directly state the purpose of the writing.

I like pies because they come in all different sizes and flavors so you always have a variety to choose from. After I have chose my topic and mentioned why I preferred this certain pastry I will write my body paragraphs and explain why this pastry is my favorite. While writing my body paragraphs I will go back and make sure my thesis statement is still connected with the body paragraphs I have provided. My thesis statement would be as follows: Pies are the best type of pastries because they come in all different flavors, sizes, and grandmothers are known to be chefs when it comes to making pies. In my first body paragraph I would talk about the different flavors pies come in. Pies can have very unique flavors and also as original as an apple pie. Everyone has their favorite pies and I would explain what flavor my favorite is. After I talk about the flavors I would transition into all of the different sizes of pies there are. There are pies as big as tables and small as the pies that you can get from McDonalds. Each size is has its own set of consumers. If someone is just looking for a little snack to keep them satisfied until lunch or super they might have a smaller pie. On the other hand if someone is at a restaurant and they are looking for desert to share with the family, they might ask for a bigger slice to cure everyone’s sweet tooth.
