Being able to start and maintain productive conversations is an important skill that everyone should learn. Having the skill to engage in a productive conversation will not only help you in campus clubs and organizations, but will be a valuable skill during internships and in all professional settings. Being able to make people feel comfortable and relaxed when talking to you is a skill that you need to develop if you want to be a successful leader. Good positive conversations help build and enhance both personal and professional relationships. During the college years you are given many opportunities to build friendships and other personal relationships, these relationships will eventually lead to networking opportunities in the future. Recognizing the strengths and abilities of others allows you to build strong and lasting relationships. Make sure that when you compliment someone you use sincere and genuine words and expressions. It is important to give positive feedback to reinforce the good relationships in your life. Sincere compliments are one way to put the people you interact with at ease and open them up to further conversation. It is also important that these compliments are genuine and just meaningless words meant to impress the person. People will be able to tell if you are not truly sincere and are just trying to impress them or get something from
