Traits Of A Good Friend Essay

Improved Essays
I always hear what makes a good friend in books that I have read. That’s just it seems like a good friend is just in books and made up. Some of these traits of a good friend are arguable and others are right on the spot. It seems like every time I try having a friendship those so call traits are never there in the person. If I was going to make a friend the things I look for in them are: honest at all times, there for you through the hard times in life, and they like the same things I do. The most important trait to me is if the friend will be completely honest with you. I don’t like liars and I know I lie too but I never would lie to my friend about some things. If you are going to be my friend I will need you to be up front about almost …show more content…
Now this past summer I lost my uncle who was very close to me and other people that knew him too. The first few days were the hardest seeing all of my parents friends come and crying and bringing us food. Then my brother’s friends showed up and talked to them and helped them through this rough time. Through this whole week I only had one friend come and visit me and when they did I didn’t know what to say. I had other people text me saying I’m sorry or you’re in our prayers but that wasn’t enough I had to rely on family members and they were hurting too. I’m not saying they should feel sorry for you but they should be there in the rough times to help you get through them. It’s like you need that physical support and mental support of a friend. With a friend there to help you through it all then you know that there will a tomorrow and it will be sunny and no longer cloudy and …show more content…

There are things that I try to avoid in people and what they do for example; drinking alcohol, using drugs, and premarital sex. Almost everybody does something bad but these three things to me seem like they don’t end very good and may make your life a lot harder on you. If I hear one of my assumed friends is doing one of these things stated above it makes me so mad I just quit talking to them. I know that is a bit too much and I am completely overreacting but it does make some what sense. It would be hard to be friends with some who doesn’t like to hunt or who is animal rights supporter. In conclusion friends are never perfect except in books and are hard to find. The three most looked at traits in friends by me are honesty at all times, there for you when need the most, and have some common interest with me. It seems when you think you got a good one they soon prove you dead wrong. To hear from a friend who is honest with you and have some the same interest as me and that will tell me when I am going through a rough time that the grass is always greener on the other side. That is a true

Many people become friends that are like them and are interested in what they like or need so that the other person can be useful to them. It is more a convenience type of friendship because something is wanted once that reason is not there the friendship ends. This is something that is seen all the time and over and over it occurs in everyone’s life. I also agree that it is rare to find good friendships that want nothing in return but the good as the ultimate goal.
