I enjoyed the games and assemblies we cheered at, striving to instill as much spirit in the crowd as I possibly could. A few months after I joined, we put on a mini cheer camp in which we taught young girls cheers and choreographed a dance that we performed at a basketball game. Some time after the camp, I remember seeing a few of the girls out in public. The girls ran up to me yelling “cheerleader!”. They told me how much they loved the camp, and how they wanted “to be just like me”. Since that day, I realized that not only did the girls look up to me because I was a cheerleader, but also because of who I was as a person. Through mini cheer,

Many people didn’t consider the thing I love the most, the thing that drives and pushes me to be the best in life, and the thing that many people live for not a sport. The thing frustrating me the most is when people think Allstar Cheerleading is not a sport and they are usually the ones that don’t understand what it takes to be an Allstar Cheerleader and why it is in fact a sport. As the advancement in Cheerleading came full force into the world, during the early 1980s, there were many Cheerleading squads that were not associated with their school programs. These squads main focus and objective was the competition side of Cheerleading.…

Many stereotypes that I have about cheerleaders have been ingrained into my mind by the media, and from personal experience. From what I had observed in high school, cheerleaders are the “in crowd”. They are the popular girls, and only associate with each other. Not only do cheerleaders seem popular, but they’ve always struck me as a very promiscuous and nasty group of girls.…

Throughout the summer I decided that I wanted to spend most of my time volunteering at youth cheerleading camps. Not only did I get the chance to interact with younger girls and set a good role model, but I also got the chance to work with other girls my age who have talent and loves cheerleading just as much as I do! The two camps I was a part of was the Danny Lansanah Football/Cheerleading Camp and the Packers & Broncos Cheerleading Camp. Both camps were located at John Harris High School for ages 5-14 and were free with food provided. During both camps my job was to focus on the basic skills you need to learn to become a cheerleader and also make up a routine to teach the girls.…

Although most agree that sideline cheer could and should not be named a sport, competitive cheerleading most definitely is. Since the beginning of time, groups of people have come together to cheer on their favorite sports team. However, “…it wasn’t until the late 1800s that organize cheering came to be,” (History of Cheerleading). At first, cheerleading was a male-dominate sport.…

Cheerleading Tryouts “Come on Lauren you’ve been doing this way too long, you’ve been on the team every year since you were 14.” I said to myself as I walk through the halls of my High School. Today is May 24, the first day of the annual cheerleading try outs and for some reason I’m extremely nervous even though I’m a three year veteran. I go through my classes talking to all my other cheer friends saying how this is going to be a breeze and how we can’t wait to start the season even though my stomach is literally overwhelmed with butterflies. DING DING DING!!!…

Cheerleading has always been a very important aspect to my life. In high school our cheerleading squad had an experience that proved cheerleaders do not get the respect from other athletes that they deserve. As a cheerleading squad, we were at every football and basketball game, even the away games. We were there to show support for our fellow athletes, however when our squad was in a cheerleading competition, not one of the other athletes came in support of us. This showed the lack of respect other athletes had for our cheerleading squad.…
