The Salem Witch Trials started in 1692 by the strange and aberrant behavior of a group of young girls. The residents of Salem saw this behavior and questioned the girls. The girls then confessed that a Caribbean slave by the name of Tituba had been showing them witchcraft. Tituba was put on trial for the accusation of being a witch and she confessed, telling them that she was a witch and not the only one. She told the people of Salem that 9 other people had signed the Devil’s book and become a witch. Soon after Tituba’s claim people, mostly the group of girls, started to make accusations. Accusations of their neighbors and friends, and later in the trial, their family and loved-ones. Many people of the lower class were accused, thought to be less pure than the other.
