What Led Me To Washington College

When I was in eighth grade, I got a C during my first quarter of algebra. It’s not that I wasn’t studious or hardworking, I simply didn’t understand it. I tried harder than the other students, spending more time on my homework, color coding my notes, yet my papers would always be marked with lower percentages. I had to gather up all of my courage to ask my teacher for extra help. She kindly agreed. I would go to her once a week after school; we reviewed my homework and completed worksheets. My grade shot up. I learned that independence is great, but it is okay to ask for help. The student-faculty ratio at Washington College is 11:1. A ratio this low allows each respective student to develop relationships with each of their teachers and get help after class if they need it. I plan to double major in psychology and biology, so that I will be able to go to medical school after college. I know that this will not be easy, but I believe that Washington College will be able to provide me with the support I need to achieve my goals. …show more content…
I would have the opportunity to learn about the things surrounding my major, outside of the classroom. One of my goals is to become fluent in Spanish. Washington would let me take classes in Spanish, in order to earn a minor, and give me the opportunity to study abroad, in order to become immersed in the language. The extracurriculars would also allow me to participate in things that interest me which I would not necessarily be studying. For example, I enjoy participating in shows, but do not wish to major or minor in theatre. Washington would allow me to continue to participate in shows, without committing to a minor in
