The speaker pointed out that we need to determine what kind of job we want by assessing our values and interests because if we choose family we might not want to work far from our home we might not want a job which lot of travels are required. By doing background research we are able to identify what kind of environments that we preferred to work because it can help us to make a better decision so that we will increase our interest and responsibility while working in a suitable environment. Therefore, we need to develop a list of employers that we are interesting in. When we do research we should use all the available resources such as Career Center, company website, Google and friends.

Description:
The speaker told us that we need to create customize cover letters and resumes that are fit to specific companies which we would apply in order to maximize the chance for each opportunity. Cover letters and resumes are important because they tell the interviewee if we are qualified or not for the positions we are applying, as it show our skills, training, experience and enthusiasm to the positions.

I have found this is important because I have never created any cover letters and resumes before. I understand how important of their power to help me to find a job but I do not know what are the formal and proper information that I need to contain. The article of The Art Of The Online Résumé pointed out that the use of keywords, and only the right keywords which are related to the position, could help the job seekers, especially as most electronic resumes might not be selected if they don’t have certain number of keywords.

Therefore, I believe I need more preparation than other job seekers. In my own experience, I was late for 5 minutes for a first day of my job due to traffic; after I arrived the manager didn’t want to talk to me. Even though it has been 7 years but every time when I recall it I still feel embarrassed. Therefor, I understand that to perform professionally with the right attitude and be prepared are so important.
