What It Means To Be A Writer

Decent Essays
A writer to me doesn’t necessarily need to write. A writer is a dreamer, who sees characters and worlds swarm around them to form a story. They need no paper to make these stories real to them, but they may have a compulsion to do so. I have been like this my entire life, and I feel like most writers, if they’re meant to be writers, will say the same.

In the essay "I am Writing Blindly" by Roger Rosenblatt, he describes the great value writing has on people. Rosenblatt claimed that "we exist by storytelling- by relating our situations..," which is what makes us have freedom and have the ability to communicate with people even after death. The usage of the different stories in the essay portrays the necessity of writing, that'd be before dying to leave a mark of remembrance or to prove a point by storytelling. Therefore Rosenblatt's examples of why people write and he's consecutive structure of writing makes his essay enjoyable to read, although he lacks clarity in the beginning of his essay and a few paragraphs. When Rosenblatt describes the JAL airliner that went down in 1985 and the Warsaw…

Being Yourself In Ink Writing to me is a license to connect myself and my intuition to my work. What I enjoy and dislike about writing, what I have been taught and what works for me, is the foundation for my development as a writer. For as long as I can recall, I have been a creator. Before I even received my first essay prompts in school, as a child I already crafted stories to be transcribed by my father, or scribbled down by my own hands, or played out by toy dolls. I never even realized my natural inclination to writing until suddenly, around the third grade or so, my teachers and peers began noticing this peculiar aspect of myself. My essays were read aloud to the class, the teachers instructed me to assist my peers who struggled with grammar, the librarian gave me personal recommendations on which books were a satisfying read - sure enough, my aspiration to be a writer had been diagnosed.…

Portrait of a Writer As I have mentioned in previous essays, I much prefer reading to writing. However, once I get my flow going, I am able to write some well thought out essays. I think the main thing that I see when I look at myself as a writer is why I write. As far back as I can remember, I have never written anything for fun, never had a journal or anything like that. Basically, I only write when I have to.…

Whenever I am asked to define myself I get caught up between the things that I am and the things I aspire to become. To me it was easy to define myself by the things I am passionate about, I would say a programmer or even a reader but to me those just don’t justify the special and complicated individuality of each and every single one of us. I’ve always been passionate about computer programming but I would rather be described as persistent, dedicated and patient. Because mainly those are the elements I was required to do through the struggle of learning and achieving, or even coming close to achieving what I wanted.…

Describe Yourself As A Writer I’ve come to realize that after years of writing papers, I’m actually a better writer than I give myself credit for. I’ve noticed over time that I’ve advanced in how I structure my paragraphs, however, not so much with my sentences. It’s like making a cake look delicious at first glance with frosting and decorations, but then you take a bite and there 's way too much sugar or it 's overcooked in the inside. My strength in writing includes: using better words to describe what I’m writing about, spelling complex words, creativity, and passion.…

As we all know, the final Unit assignment is a personal reflection about what I’ve learned and who I am as a writer.
