Social and Environmental issues addressed in Trash and Wall-e -An analytical essay __________________________________________________________________ The main issue of overflowing waste in the texts (Wall-e and Trash) is mainly derived from the unawareness and sheer apathy from society; mainly the emotions and responses of a responsible authority body. Both texts facilitates the examination of human condition. However, Trash delves into a psychological aspect, in terms as this unawareness comes from a pursuit of power in a social hierarchy, hence stripping people of their morals.…
Problem In the very large community of Pecan Plantation we have garbage trucks that come by every tuesday morning. For a gated community the size of granbury’s population every family brings a lot of trash to the curb every tuesday. Throught granbury there are many places that residents can take their recycling to in order to dispose of it properly. But just next door in Pecan there is only a single recycling bin placed right in the middle of the community on a road that not many travel. This has become a growing problem in Pecan Plantation due to the growing size of the population every year.…
The world can be overwhelming yet simple, as time has passed and humans evolved to create new technology we find ourselves living in a world of by-products. In the article ”This is Paradise: Puente Hills Landfill, City of Industry, California” written by Jeanne Marie Laskas we are introduced to the concept that as humans have evolved so has our manufacturing, leaving, mountains of trash in our evolutionary wake. We meet few but important characters of the Puente Hill Landfill, simple men who share a consistent sense of pride within their occupation. We are taken on a journey through history, concepts of trash collection we find that some of our ancestors were brutally smart at protecting their cities and future civilizations. Creating rules…
There are many laws out there that many people do not know about, therefore, are unintentionally breaking the law. While this may not seem like a huge deal, the amount of people breaking these laws is huge. People litter when they have trash, or jaywalk when the timing is convenient. Frank Trippett, in his article, “A Red Light for Scofflaws”, explains that millions of people break smaller laws everyday. Trippett is right, because the amount of people breaking the law is insane, and these laws were made for a reason.…
In “A Lack of Light on Litter”, Robert Davis mostly addresses the younger generation as his spectators. The content states there is a trend of laziness in American culture that the younger generation has grown into. Since the author believes high school and college students to fit the generations norm, it is assumed that the audience is these students. The issue at hand, is consistent littering among Americans. Davis explains how the young adults have a disregard for the effects of littering on the planet.…

How many problems lurk behind our daily rituals and second nature behaviors? Edward Humes’ Garbology certainly has opened my eyes to a lot of issues that I was imperceptive to. Hume’s unveils the truth about how we as Americans live as serial wasters. We purchase heaps of items a year that we don’t keep long enough. Almost everything that we bring into our homes is over packaged, and it seems that with every generation a bizarre obsession with all things plastic flourishes.…
Hello everyone, I believe this campaign might be the wrong way to utilize money and research; this might be a negative way of promoting public habits in attempts to change the environment. The amount of research that is needed to identify every individual seems like it would be a waste of scientific time and energy. It would be almost impossible to be able to detect or “recreate the faces of litterbugs” for everyone who resides in Hong Kong. If littering is such an issue to the country then there should be more things done about the recycling system and the use of products. I don’t think the by targeting individuals in society will help them change or encourage any type of promotion of change.…
William Rathje began the Garbology project as an attempt to analyse the contemporary North American society and its consumption habits using the discard and rubbish of the material culture of the time. The anthropological project started in the 1970’s and was based in Tucson, Arizona and the long period that the study was carried out allowed it a possible element of continuity in its insights and conclusions. The Garbology Project used archaeological techniques to sort and quantify modern household refuse, in an attempt to explore contemporary consumer behaviour from the material residues that are left behind in trash cans and the landfill sites. The project was proposed by Rathje to give some insight on the anthropology of American food…

After moving in on campus I began to notice how often litter appeared outside of my apartment. At first it wasn’t an issue until my friend came over for a visit; I gave him a tour and he complained about how dirty the campus was. It was at that point in time when I realized how ill-mannered some of the people I live with are. It was a total embarrassment for me to have to explain why people treated the campus like that. Of course there are reasons for why people do these things.…
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience of the harmful effects of littering, and persuade them to potentially stop littering all together. Central Idea: To help clean up our earth by persuading people to stop littering. Introduction:…
Have you ever walked down the road and seen hundreds of cans and bottles that were just tossed out the window? The earth is being polluted more and more each day as people are tossing their trash on the ground. Millions of dollars are spent every year, making simple things such as plastic bottles, because people are sending them to landfills instead of recycling bins. The earth is becoming a dirty place and it is already beginning to impact us. The best ways to make the earth cleaner are to recycle, buy reusable items, and stop littering.…
