Once the sunset faded and the setting changed, the whole mood of the story changed and the people surrounding the pit suddenly seemed to grow and had the courage to advance forward. Once the smoke is released and causes the sky overhead and pine trees darkened abruptly and the setting was once again changed. But this time once the setting was changed, people started dying one after another falling victim to the “light” coming from the pit. And once everything had returned to the normal blackness of night, the narrator had been overcome with fear and decided to run from the pit without looking back. The dark setting along with the events that took place had made the narrator scared.
