What Is Wangari Maathai

According to Wangari Maathai, “The environment and the economy are really both two sides of the same coin. If we cannot sustain the environment, we cannot sustain ourselves.” As I began to do more research on the environment and why it is greatly diminishing, is because our economy is considerably expanding in value. Who would have ever thought that a woman from Kenya would encourage so many women rural areas to prevent deforestation and restore the their main source of fuel for cooking, generate income, and avoid soil wearing away. This movement was the cause of 51 million trees being planted in Kenya. Just one woman choose to make a difference and began a movement that ended up making an affecting the environment of the country of Kenya. …show more content…
I made sure that I incorporated a tree in some sort of way, because the movement she created planted 51 million trees. However, instead of putting leaves on the tree, I replaced it with the type hair Africans have to show where this movement took place. I also put a quote from Wangari Maathai on the artwork to show how her words also played a huge part in her movement. I hope to inspire people to follow in the footsteps of Wangari Maathai's followers. I see the environment as a playground. You can play with the equipment of the environment, but carefully have your fun, because once all of the equipment is worn down and no longer able to use, we will have to play on another playground. However, the alternative playground will not be as fun as the first. Researching Wangari Maathai, I realized that while you play there may be a few accidents, but to fix those accidents by replacing or repairing what was broken. Restoring what is negatively affected, may be what keeps the playground up and
