What Is Tuesdays With Morism Carrie By Mitch Albom

There is a variety of important life lessons for the reader to learn from the book Tuesdays with Morrie, written by Mitch Albom. Of the many meaningful aphorisms Morrie Schwartz taught Mitch, there is one in particular that I feel I can relate to on a personal level. It reads: “so many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.” I find this quote very relatable because not too long ago, I went through a period …show more content…
In today's society, I feel as though we get too caught up in the little unimportant things. Take social media in my case; I chose to pay more attention to other people's life than my own. I went so far as to form an obsession over the things I thought they had, even though this may not have been the case. Many tend to find themselves spending more of their energy watching celebrities on reality TV than spending quality time with those that are physically there with them. With today's technology social media allows us to share who we're with, what we're doing, when we're eating, where we are, and how we feel, all with a simple tap of a phone screen. It is too easy to access the personal bits and pieces of another's life without so much as leaving the comfort of your own room. With that being said, it is too easy to get into the obsessive habit of comparing a stranger's life to yours without even realizing it. It is a common trend, for teens especially, to lose track of the good things about themselves when looking at others. Only seeing what one appears to have that they don't, losing sight in what is truly important in life. Believe it or not, we are only given a very limited amount of time on this earth and I feel that we should spend every minute of it with a purpose. When life knocks you down and you don't see any way to get back up, you have to tell yourself that there is a way… there is always a way. I strongly believe in having a purpose in life, something more than just living. With that being said, I am not proposing that one should drop their job to run around the country hugging trees, but find a reason to be happy, better yet be someone else's reason for happiness. It took me a long time to learn this lesson and to be honest I'm still learning. It is hard, without a

However, when that purpose is stripped from the person, their mental and physical states decline. The authors of the article Purpose in Life and Positive Health Outcomes Among Older Adults state that the rates of depression, hopelessness, and mortality all increase with a loss of purpose. A life purpose informs one’s sense of direction and decision-making; without it one becomes…

Susan Wolf’s argument that a meaningful life is one that is actively and at least somewhat successfully engaged in a project (or projects) of positive value is developed through a philosophical distinction between the perception of what is meaning of life and what constitutes as a meaningful life (797). Wolf classifies a meaningful life as one of positive value and active engagement, not to be confused with subjective criteria like personal happiness or contentment. The author distinguishes a meaningful life by elaborating on what she qualifies as a meaningless life. Wolf first characterizes a meaningless life as a life of “hazy passivity” (796). Individuals who are categorized into this bracket often indulged themselves in deeds that contribute…

Therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, and just about any doctor you can think of persuades us to enjoy life “ be happy “ they want us to appreciate life because it's short right? How are we supposed to engage in finding joviality if the world hasn’t changed, hasn't accepted us for who we are and what we are. It seems that we are always in the midst of changing ourselves for others, why do people who we think are robust and vigorous always stab us in the back. Why are they never there when we need them to be, we never really take it as serious as we should, we seem to care about ourselves more than anything. We do this because we want others to accept us we want to look suitable, this is not how we should be acting, this is the generation where…

Harvard Business School’s professor Dr. Clayton M. Christensen was asked by the graduating class to give some advice on how to apply his principles and thinking to their personal lives, not their career. Dr. Christensen shared his experience with the students regarding how he could find meaning in his own life by telling them some real-life examples with various theories and models. Dr. Christensen would not tell them what to think, but how to think. This would let people answer their questions insightfully. Later he asked his students to use those models and theories on themselves and answer three questions: How can they be sure that they will be happy in their career, how they can be sure that their relationships with spouse and family will become an enduring source of happiness, and how to live a life of integrity?…

In all honesty when we were assigned Tuesdays with Morrie and heard a little summary of what the book held inside, I quickly made the assumption that it was a “useless project” or a “waste of time”. I began to read the book with a totally uninterested attitude and even though the book may not be my favorite genre, it really grabbed my attention whether I liked to admit it or not. The wisdom and insight Morrie sought to inform people on and the inspiring outlook he had on life stirred in myself a need to meditate and reflect on my own life. Over all it was a motivating book and I gained strong personal insights, in some ways I even felt times of shock with views that made me consider changing my own life now and for the future, and realized…

When one regards his or her happiness, it is with little relationship to their actual emotional condition. When asked if happy, most people generally respond with what they think the listener wants to hear. There’s some outlying circumstance that makes it so that happiness is not in that moment. There is taxes to pay, cars have broken down,or slanderous things were spoken about a person. Attributing happiness to the impact of situations in one’s life is an unintelligent thought .…

Most people in the world nowadays have an alarming rate of depression, there are a lot of causes for this mental illness. However, one of the causes for depression is lacking of purpose in life. A lot of adults just go to work at nine-to-five jobs that they hate, then go home or sometimes partying on the weekends, and then go to sleep to get ready for work tomorrow. The cycle keeps repeating, they just live in a repetitive and boring life with no purpose; this is where depression sneaks in, they feel useless and hopeless because they think they have no purpose to live in this world. People have no purpose mainly because they do not have any specific skill or hobby to master.…

Every once in a while we try to take our life in our hands and think to ourselves that we are better than everybody and that the people around us don’t know anything about us or what we want in life. Personal fulfillment is good for us sure but it is bad for the society. And I believe that whatever is bad for the society is bad for the individual as well. I believe that we should listen to our adults and not our hearts because we haven’t seen the real world yet so we don’t really know what is waiting out there for us and how we should handle it whereas our parents have seen it all.…

“All the world 's a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts” – William Shakespeare This quote by William Shakespeare speaks directly to me about life. It seems to pull back and look at how people live and function in the grand scheme in not just the circle of life, but throughout all of time. The perception of the world and those on it changes the further we pull ourselves away. Shakespeare has backed away and looked at the world in a different view.…

It is important to life your life, to not to sit around and reflect about the bad when you should be focusing on the good, to live your life down to the last seconds so that at the end you will not have regrets. I chose to analyze an untitled poem written by C. Joybell. All of her poems inspire me and go hand in hand with my life. In her poem, she writes how you can be the most beautiful person in the world and everyone can see the light in you but if you do not know it, then that does not matter. Every second that is spent doubting your life and your worth, is a second of your life that you wasted and it is a moment that is thrown away.…
