What Is Trump's Disability?

Improved Essays
During Trump’s campaign for presidency in 2016, he mocked a reporter’s disability in public. This showed his disrespect for that reporter and others with a disability or mental illness. Trump also showed the same disrespect to his family many years ago. During 1999, the Trump family patriarch died. The will, which was written previously with the help of Donald Trump, gave every Trump child a share of the money. However, Fred Trump got a significantly less amount. Also around that time, Fred’s wife, Lisa, gave birth to a child with a mental illness, which requires more than $300,000 over the child’s lifetime for hospital visits, frequent check-ups, and more. Because of this, Fred accused Donald of excluding him from the will and sued Trump.

Claiming disability is important in the life of disabled people because it allows them to be more confident in an ableist culture, fight for equal treatment, and have a community of support. Confidence is an essential to a positive lifestyle. In an ableist culture, people such as Ellen Forney and Maysoon Zayid have overcome disparage and negativity to have confidence in themselves. Comparably, Zayid has used her confidence to fight for equal treatment among Susan Nussbaum’s character, Yessie in “Good Kings Bad Kings: A Novel”. Furthermore, Forney, Zayid, and Yessie have been able to accomplish great ambitions due to their community support systems.…

We are constantly going through change, whether it be our government or us as individuals. Time has shown that as we evolve to be more socially accepting our government soon follows. One of the biggest changes we have undergone has been the movements that allow certain individuals to express their basic rights such as guarantee of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. A movement that is overlooked was the Disability rights movement, now we realize that discriminating a person because of their disability is shameful and we know that people with disabilities are just people. There was two people that made a major impact in this movement, Ed Roberts and Justin Dart, as well as several protest.…

Disability in Cinema – How has it been portrayed in Avatar? Movies have proven themselves to be a major source of entertainment and business lately, and everybody watches them. What movies portray or reflect, some may just look at it and forget about it the very next moment, but there are some who watch with a completely different perspective and have their ways of thinking influenced by what they see in these movies. Since my paper is about disabilities seen in movies, I’m going to take the example of the movie Avatar here which is probably the best example out there when it comes to showing how disabilities have been portrayed to the major audience.…

Additionally, returning to the irony of how Julie fits Aunt Bea’s conceptualized haunted figure, however her disability has damaged her chances of having the abled-bodied individual aid her. The first reason this distances Julie’s form connecting to the able-bodied individual is because of her cognitive disability, which makes her incapable of coherently expressing her mental thoughts. Arguably, the societal benefit system is meant to reach and understand individuals like Julie, however it does not, and this further demonstrates society’s failure to properly aid the vulnerable. Problematically, because Julie is recognized as the vulnerable, she causes primal rejection in the able-bodied, and this then causes the able-bodied to minimalized their…

In those instances, the contestants could be found crying out of humiliation and devastation being compared to someone who was “stripped bare.” Another more recent example can be seen in 2015 with a remark about Hillary Clinton. He stated on Twitter that “If Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband what makes her think she can satisfy America?” To defame someone because of their personal life and not their professional experience, especially in a sexist matter, is counterproductive language to be using. In both examples the rhetoric used by Donald Trump is harmful to gender…

Kafer discusses the depoliticization of disability as she analyses the billboards used by the Foundation for a Better Life’s (FBL) “Pass it On” series. This depoliticization occurs as the FBL shifts responsibility for “overcoming” a disability onto an individual rather than the society around them and frames a “focus on personal responsibility [that] precludes any discussion of social, political or collective responsibility” (Kafer 89). Through this focus the FBL portrays that sticking with “community” values will provide all that one needs to overcome a disability, however they fail to recognize that the community they are basing their values on is geared towards discrimination and ableist mindsets. These billboards are not alone in their…
