Toxocariasis is an infection caused by parasitic roundworms. The infection starts in the intestines and can spread to other parts of the body. The infection usually does not cause problems, but it can lead to vision problems, including permanent vision loss, if it spreads to the eyes. Most people with this condition never get sick or have symptoms.
CAUSES

This condition is caused by roundworms of the Toxacara family. The roundworms are commonly found in the intestines of dogs and cats, and their eggs can be found in animal feces. People can get this condition if they swallow soil or something else that has been infected with roundworm eggs. Once a roundworm egg is swallowed, it settles in the intestine and hatches.
