What Is Today's Teenage Generation Less Likely To Successful?

A new study shows that today’s teenage generation is less likely to succeed due to technology being too easy to access. As a student born in this generation, I know that it’s easy to look up a question, find an answer, then copy and paste it as your own work.

Social media being so easy to access on any type of device, leads to students getting distracted, unfocused, and lazy in class. As a student, I am constantly noticing my cohort flicking through their Instagram feed, and liking/commenting on a range of different posts. As a result of this, their grades are low, their expectations are low, and have low concentration level. Research by the ACMA gives the evidence that over 82% of Australian teenagers are on social media. This means 82% of students could be receiving the same characteristic as above.

Although I have noticed it makes the classroom silent, it is vital to have the skills to reason and talk to people. As an outcome of this students do not have the social skills needed for the workforce. Prabhakararao Sampathirao’s research proves that technology strips students’ face-to-face interaction skills. How are we supposed to have a relationship with someone, if we won’t even have the social skills to have a conversation with them?

Typing on a computer all day instead of handwriting information causes poor handwriting skills. What happens if something happens to our computers? This could result in limited communication and opportunities that could lead us to success. It means that we rely on our devices to be able to communicate with people and are unreliable in the workplace if something happened. A 2012 study by Matthew Casey, confirms that 33% of people have difficulty understanding their own handwriting. How can others read ours when we can’t even read our
