The Power of Something That Can’t Be Seen: The Effect of Fear on Our Lives Ray Bradbury shows us, in Fahrenheit 451, a society that is always moving at a very fast pace and do not think they not have time for deep thinking and books. Ray Bradbury wrote this book after World War II, when he saw how our country could go down the wrong path. In this novel, the government hires firemen to burn the books and anyone that is associated with them. The government has put the fear in everyone’s mind of these books. Guy Montag, is a fireman hired by the government to burn the books but he becomes curious of what these books say and why everyone is so afraid of them. Bradbury uses Guy Montag, when he was suspected of reading the books, to show us how the fear of something can control our actions and our feelings.

Bradbury described like this, “Montag sat still as if the house were collapsing about him and he could not move in the bed” (Bradbury 62). Montag was so afraid of the government that he was shaking and felt as if the house was going to collapse on him.
