We chose The Zone of Proximal Development, Vygotsky’s term for the distance between the most difficult task a child can do alone and the most difficult task a child can do with help; the area of development a child has not reached on his own but that he reach with the inputs of others (Mooney pg.101). We picked this concept also because our site supervisor had previously mentioned that the children would learn from those who already had previous knowledge about the season and that was correct. The children showed us what they were able to do on their own such as putting the cutouts in the right season on their own. Also by the help of the children that new about the season and our assistance helped the children that didn’t have an understanding of the changes of the season to understand the concept of at least two seasons at the end of our lesson. Scaffolding by Vygotsky was another concept we chose, he believed that a child on the edge of learning a new concept could benefit from the interaction with a teacher or a classmate (Mooney pg. 102). The children who initially did not respond or participate when we first asked questions benefited from scaffolding of their classmates that helped them were to place the felt cutouts in the right season and by us also telling them were the felt cutouts of the correct season should …show more content…
The children were also able to have hands on activity and provide their knowledge of the change of the seasons to the other children who initially did not respond or participate when we first asked questions. With our lesson and the interaction of the children, the children that didn’t have an understanding of the season were able to at least get some concepts of the lesson such as learning 1-2 season. All the students enjoyed the project and had fun putting the felt cut outs on the correct season we asked them.
What I learned from planning and implementing my project was to present our project in a less stimulating area where the children can focus more at get less distracted. Also to be patients and to understand that they are children and they are in the processes of leaning. I also leaned to not underestimate how smart children really are. The children from our group project really showed how smart and knowledgeable they were about the season. Lastly I learned how to make a lesson plan and hoe implemented in a classroom with
