In class we discussed a case study called “The Theater Budget” about an organization called Greater Euclid Little Theater, which is a small group of adults staging performances. The organization changed after Cathy Cole, the then newly artistic director was appointed. After Cathy Cole, left her position, Andy Spaulding took on the position as an artistic director. In the case study provided, the case starts with the discussion on increasing salary pay for Any Spaulding, however many board members including Jane Dobbs, the Vice President for Administration and President-elect, David Price, President and Treasurer Nicky Counts all came with the agreement that they were unable to provide the amount of salary Spaulding wanted because of insufficient…

The “Three-Fifths Clause” covered the amount of delegates in the House of Representatives awarded for African Americans living in slave states. The slave trade was also protected for another twenty years. Another protection written into these agreements was federal agreement that runaway slaves should be returned to their masters when they are captured.…

Exam 2 Homework 4.2 The gold-framed copy of the Ten Commandments displayed the courthouses does indeed violate the Establishment Clause. The route of progress is not a straight and narrow path. There are numerous times where the great leaders of our country had no other choice but to disobey the law that was put in place for the welfare of the American people. These changes were made in areas that they deem necessary for change to happen. If the leaders had completely sworn off all things that were considered unconstitutional, then the country would not have made any progress over time. Even still, there are plentiful times that unconstitutional things done by leaders that were not used for the good of the American people.…
Ethical Dilemmas Essay I have chosen to analyze case two and this paper will outline my understanding, exploration, and final decision-making process as it applies to the ethical dilemmas presented. Understanding the Dilemmas This case has a variety of ethical dilemmas occurring across several contexts (personal, societal, and organizational). Reflecting on the theories and conceptual models presented in this course, I found the Five Faces of Oppression (Young, 2014) and the Ecological Systems Theory (Bronfenbrenner, 1979) helpful in conceptualizing these various circumstances and contexts.…

The school decision in this case does not violate the 1st amendment, because the purpose of this choice was to protect the affiliated students from possible violence and disturbances in the classroom. The five students were wearing American flag clothing on the school grounds, which included a shirt and a bandanna. The wearing of this clothing could fall under freedom of speech, because this could be seen as an act of expressing their patriotism or citizenship in the United States, but they did violate the school policy by wearing bandanas. There was also no evidence that the flag actually caused any violence or disruptive, but the purpose of the choice to ask students to remove the clothing, was to avoid this from happening. The school's interest…

This essay seeks to discuss the Doctrine of Promissory Estoppel and the Doctrine of Consideration, as well as a clear analysis, with the use of case law, how Promissory Estoppel has become an exception to the general principle that a promise may only be enforced if it is supported by good consideration; it will ultimately conclude whether or not a promise to accept a smaller sum in discharge of a larger sum, if acted upon, is binding notwithstanding the absence of consideration. A contract is a legally binding agreement in law between two or more parties, which is enforced by law or by binding arbitration if it covers the elements of a valid legal agreement. For there to be a valid contract, three elements must be present, offer, acceptance, and consideration. If there is no consideration, there is no contract; however, with promissory estoppel instead of consideration, if there is a promise which induces reliance, the court would find some sort of liability for the promise.…
Written by Arthur Miller during the 1950’s, The Crucible portrays the chaos of the Salem Witch Trials and how religion overpowers law. Lying, over dramatic and immature, teenage girls they were, that started such a cruel event. (McKeon #3). Here, we see where Puritans settled as strict and religious Christians. As conventional Christians, the Bible dictated the laws and the way of life.…
But these actions are ones that individuals ought to do for the good of everyone; although one is degrading their integrity, they are upholding outcomes that are necessary for the good. On the other hand, not acting against moral beliefs can produce negative consequences that one is responsible for that erodes personal integrity. In Williams’ example of George not wanting to accept his job offer to work for chemical and biological warfare research to support his family, George choosing his morality maintains his integrity, but does not produce a consequence of good for his family or for someone who will receive the job with higher aspirations in the field (664). In a utilitarian response, it would require George to take the job. But based on Williams’ claims, he should not because the moral implications of working a job would degrade his integrity by essentially aiding in the killing of numerous people (664-665).…
