Sir Thomas More once defined a utopia as an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect. The Truman Show depicts the life of Truman Burbank in an effort to satisfy Christof the director’s vision of a perfect community. Of course though utopia is only desirable if everyone living there shares the same definition of perfection and it's evident throughout the movie that utopia just isn’t the word to describe Seahaven Island. More like a dystopia considering the fact that majority of the film is spent with Truman searching for explanations to weird things happening and trying desperately to escape. He responded by saying, “Ah! You know there was lots of things that kind of you know had me in a state of confusion like when that lighting fixture fell from the sky! Or when it was raining one time but only rained on my head and nothing else like whoa. Then I could’ve sworn I saw my father but these people dragged him away…but I would definitely say that the moment when I was driving in my car and started flipping radio stations and I heard people discussing my exact actions and whereabouts was what did it for me…” Out of all his reasons the most disturbing one definitely has to be when he heard people talking about his every move in the car. Truman responded the way he did to let people know his perspective of the situation. Next question was, “When your boat crashed into the wall it was evident that you were very frustrated and sad, but when Christof started speaking to you what was going through your mind?” This was to get into the mind of Truman and his various thoughts. His response was quite interesting actually. He said, “I honestly thought I was talking to God at first but then snapped back into reality. I was taken back a bit like is this really happening. I thought it was sad how he tried to convince me to stay though.” It's
