What Is The Tone Of Not My Best Side

All painting have his or her own story, it is just a matter of how one looks at it, and how he or she interprets the emotion or message that is being exhibited. Based on U.A. Fanthorpe’s use of diction, the speakers’ attitudes in the poems towards the painting in “Not my Best Side” are taunting, then mocking, then confident and arrogant. Each poem demonstrate its very own and different tone to the painting.
To begin with, in the first poem of “Not my Best Side” is in the point of view of the two-legged dragon. The dragon’s attitude is taunting has he assures that he is much more dangerous as he seems. He is provoking that he does not “mind dying ritually since I (he will) always rise again” (Fanthorpe 1). The words “always rise again” are suggesting that the dragon is challenging the knight that he may have beat the dragon this time but he will be back and more prepared the next. He is evoking an emotion of revenge toward the knight and taunts him. The dragon wants to make the connection that the battle is not over and

Author’s use of diction suggests that she is making fun of the dragon and knight when she says the dragon has such “lovely green skin, and that sexy tail,” and jokes about how the knight “might have acne, blackhead or even bad breath” (1). The word “sexy” is implying that the dragon is attractive and handsome, but in reality dragon is far from being anything good looking. The princess is being sarcastic about how appealing the dragon is and that the dragon is actually funky looking with only having just two legs. Then the words “bad breath” furthers on the princess’ mocking. She is suggesting that this person in armor is a big joke and that he is not needed in the moment. Between the dragon and the knight, the dragon is to harmless looking and the knight’s saving is not necessary. Not only is there a princess but there is a knight with his own

In the satirical novel, “ Dealing with Dragons” by Patricia C. Wrede, the disobedient and self-reliant Cimorene refuses the typical expectations of her family and the rest of civilization. Due to the pressure and constant reminder of how “it’s simply not done” Cimorene flees her dilemma and finds shelter with the dangerous and ferocious dragon, Kazul. Cimorene was justified in ignoring the expected social norms of Medieval society because Cimorene could overlook her life, create an impact on other princesses, her judgement would be altered, and she would gain a better respect for uncanny creatures. To begin, Cimorene could further explore the subjects that were not studied by traditional princesses and would receive an advantage when using…

I chose to analyze the The Family - 1941 portray for this essay because I like the usage of the colors on this work. I feel confident analyzing colors in artworks because I learned about the emotions transmitted through colors in various art classes that I took in High School and College. Most art professors like to stress the importance of color in a work of art. They say that the understanding of the usage of the colors in a piece is important when criticizing an artwork. Colors are very important in an art work because it can give away a lot of information about the emotional state of the work.…

“The Knight” by Adrienne Rich establishes the conflict between how we, as a society, view people externally versus how people view themselves internally. By using figurative language, including extended metaphor, imagery, and anaphora, Rich imposes the idea of how we shouldn’t expect people to be exactly how we see them. The entire poem is nothing more than an extended metaphor. An extended metaphor is a metaphor that is developed over the course of a body of text. In “The Knight” the speaker compares the knight to people who go through life trying to be brave when they are actually dead on the inside.…

In every romance or drama movie, the boy meets a girl, boy saves the girl (or vice versa), and then they fall in love. We see this scenario repeated in all sorts of media, but also in our own lives. Why do we fall in love? The answer is not always clear, but one thing for certain is that love is important for us as humans. “The lover” figure exists for us because love is something that all of us are ‘supposed’ to find.…

Pablo Picasso: The Tragedy In Picasso’s “The Tragedy,” he used several different techniques to create the visual elements in the painting. The three figures, carefully drawn, and the use of contour lines help shape their bodies and show the deep thought in their faces. The color used in the painting was mainly shades of blue. The beach is a greenish blue, set against the pale blue sea, the sky is a darkened dusky blue, bringing a cold, emptiness to the piece. It is as if you were looking at the painting wearing spectacles with blue colored lenses.…

Due to the poem’s length, vague syntax and semantics, and author’s history, there is an array of interpretations and critiques. Scholars often fall into two camps regarding “Self Portrait in a Convex Mirror”: deconstructionist or meditatives. As Looper says: “the words of the poem are not synonymous with or tantamount to that spoken of – any more than the painting is equivalent to that which it depicts” (451). The question then is if there is any true meaning or if meaning is created; the latter being the answer implies that all meanings have validity if there is no objectivity to return to. Looper believes the paradoxes within the poem are not working in relation to the painting, but working to implode the poem and make it incomprehensible to the reader and himself.…

In accordance with Hutcheon, this essay will argue that “This is a Photograph of Me” is a self-reflexive poem that depicts the “act of reading” (114). However, it will expand her argument by claiming that the poem not only portrays the difficulties of decoding but also of producing texts and that it rejects the idea of a final reading. The beginning of the poem depicts the creation of a literary work, which starts as an assemblage of vague ideas and then gradually morphs into a concrete text. According to Gohrbandt and Von Lutz, self-reflexive poems – that is poems “about poetry and poets” (8) – mark themselves “as such on the level of lexical meaning … through words like ‘imagine’, ‘page’, and ‘printed’”…

    The Scream Poem Analysis

“The Scream” I really like this painting because somehow it involves mystery and insecurity and to my eyes, the rare views in it reflect a sense of how deep the feelings and thoughts of a person can be. In addition, the fact that the composition does not allow viewers to appreciate the face of the screaming person, is what has drawn me to it. Even though it seems to be that it was a lovely afternoon for everyone, it seems that it was not for the scared looking person. Although two boats are seen on the lake and two people walking very pleasingly behind, the scared looking person seems to be astonished and perhaps confused toward something. Hence, looking at this mysterious individual posing his hands on his face with his mouth open has given me the impression that he or she is appreciating something non real that no one else is able to notice; no one but him.…
