What Is The Tone Of Confessions Of An Ugly Stepsister

I am also currently reading Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire. I am on page 70; however, I plan to quit reading the novel. There are two main reasons for which I dislike this book. The first is that the hopeless tone of the main character, Iris, is very forced. The words do not seem to flow naturally, and as I read I feel very much like the author is trying incredibly hard to create something (to be completely frank I am not sure what that something is). It seems to have been written less to tell a story and more to convey a point; I am all for books with a message, I just feel that there needs to be some sort of narrative to go along with it. Also, the resounding theme of the book thus far seems to be that life is awful

“Tough Love” Since we were born there was always one person we relied on which would be our mothers, if we were fortunate to have her, because moms are our care takers till we are able to do things on our own as they guide us through the process, once we are on our own mothers are always there to demonstrate the correct way no matter your age. Sometimes mothers are so pushy with small details because they want the best out of us and know we can achieve so much. In the story “Girl” (Kincaid pg. 184-185) the author Jamaica Kincaid is portrayed as the narrator/mother in the story and I believe she wanted the best for her daughter even though she was a bit harsh, vulgar, and judgmental. One of an author's objectives while writing a creative piece of literature is to connect with the reader's emotions and make them feel something for the characters. Toni Morrison is no exception to this, and she does phenomenally in her most recent novel God Help the Child. There are several elements to this book that makes a person feel bad for the characters as the story progress. Characters, like Bride and Booker, have experienced such traumatic childhoods that had affected the outcome of their entire life and the reader is supposed to feel that sympathy for them. I, the reader in this case, was especially moved by this novel, specifically, as the plot was compelling and, more than her other novels, easy to follow and understand.…

The Little Prisoner by Jane Elliott This book was a powerful if not over powering story of a child whose step father abused her on every level of abuse; physical, mental, sexual, and emotional. The author of this book Jane, a pseudonym for the actual child, made the book come full circle. It started in the court room and was brought back to that pivotal moment when she is forced to face her attacker as an adult. It shows the reader the reaction of someone who clearly has no understanding the effects the child abuse Jane endured because the officer treated her like she was overreacting.…

Confession In The Confession, four men falsely confess to the rape and murder of Michelle Bosco. The main reasons for their confections were the idea of innocence does not need a lawyer If a lawyer had been present during these confections this horror may have never occurred, and the violation of fundamental human rights during the interrogation. These factors led to the false confession of the four men. There is a stigma around lawyering up when questioned by the police. If innocent there is no reason for a lawyer because innocence’s can stand for its self.…
